Triggered

There’s lore that if you are struck by lightning, or are too near lightning, you’re more likely to be struck in the future. You become a magnet for more. I feel like that’s true for trauma too. Once it happens, it’s likely to recur, or at least make you worry that it will. It amplifies the sensitivity to the next trigger…aptly named. Curious that we have a word for a trigger …one gets triggered. I wonder what other cultures call it: to be triggered. Is it a weaponized concept? Is it an affliction? A trap? A way of being? A way of looking at being? A sensitivity or sense? Are there societies where a “trigger” doesn’t exist?

One way triggers break is they get touchy: so sensitive they may as well be anticipatory. Just the slightest twitch, thought or expectation, it senses you and pops. Triggers can unload mistakes: Injure without intent. Trip fire. Short circuits.

Good orgasms are like that too. Being struck by lightning. Connection with everything but yourself for a delicious moment. All body and no body at the same time. If you get struck enough times, you can bring the lightning to yourself. Just thinking. Orgasms are so much more than bodies.

Pendulums swing in many directions, why do we only have words for back and forth? Can we only see what we can describe? Are our words limited by what we know? Do other eyes see different colors?
