Past, present and future

I’ve done what I needed to do to leave much of my past behind me.  I had to in order to survive this long. Otherwise, you keep letting something injure you long after the cause of the trauma is gone and you’ve survived. There’s all kinds of things you can do to leave it behind you: therapy, make amends, do spells, forgive, let go, forget, tell the story so many times that it loses its power.

Meanwhile there’s the future. All your potential lies ahead. It helps to be able to see what’s coming or where you want to go.
Spending too long on the past is like walking down the street backwards:
It’s impossible to see where you’re going, where to steer yourself.

Still, be aware of your wake, the ripples behind you. Know that you rise from ancestors and evolution to possess this moment’s heart, body and mind. Breathe for all the lives that were before you, and all the forms that might have lived before you, and the everymatter that formed into Earth and all the distant galaxies.

Stretch that breath into the next moment. Feel how effortless it is to simply be. Not holding either past or future, floating tethered to both, but held loosely like reins or an old dog’s leash. Soften your gaze to look at whatever yields to your attention, like flipping through a magazine, catalogue, or picture book. Where would you like to steer the whole line of energy, knowing that there is no wrong answer? All possibilities are reachable, through varying routes and timespans.  Explore the horizon. Sense what feels good and right to you, what will sustain you in some way, and map a course and waypoints. Remember terrain may vary, and it’s good to enjoy the course while correcting  your tracking. Destinations change all the time, whether you arrive or not. Future way is not about a single absolute (like our experience of past), but is that sense of fullness that includes all that lie ahead, as well as all imagined. Avoid the limits. Limits can change as well.
